What Is An Accent Coach Exactly?

An accent coach provides specialized services in accent reduction to those who want to sound more like native speakers of English. The sessions start with speech analysis, so the accent coach can determine exactly what your needs are.

The accent coach will teach you how to produce specific sounds, and teach you about intonation and how to add the right rhythm behind each word and sentence. Their goal is to reduce and neutralize the accent of your native language through one-on-one sessions with immediate feedback, audio recordings, and other materials.

Meet Elissa

With 7 years of experience in coaching people to sound like native speakers of English, I’m known for helping people learn sounds that even their speech therapists couldn’t achieve, helping those who couldn’t achieve their goals after years and years of practicing alone with no direction or the wrong direction.

I’m not just any random native speaker of English. I understand where you’re coming from because I’m really passionate about learning languages too. I have reached a very high level in Italian to the point where people can’t even tell that I’m not a native speaker even though I started learning Italian as an adult.

On top of that, I have a background in music with my main focus being in singing, but I also play guitar, piano, and the ukulele. There are a ton of parallels between singing and speaking languages, because at the end of the day, it all comes down to knowing how to use your voice in the right way. As a result, I have a great ear for hearing issues in people’s voices, and knowing exactly what needs to be fixed.

In any case, I know exactly what it’s like to learn a new language, try to perfect your skills, and be put down by others. But there’s a way to make all that go away.

So What’s The Secret?

Pronunciation and intonation. Grammar and vocabulary become useless when no one can understand what you’re saying, and it means that all those countless hours learning new words and grammar concepts get thrown in the garbage. Correct pronunciation and intonation are what bring your speech to life, and are what help you be able to fully experience a culture, make the best first impression, or what has people take you seriously in an important meeting or presentation.

The truth is, perfecting my Italian changed my life, and I want perfecting your English to change yours.

What Does Each Session Look Like?

After receiving your speech assessment videos, I will create a plan based on the sounds or areas you need to focus on first. We will work on one sound or concept at a time, and I will correct you on only that during those sessions. We will not move on to new concepts until you master the ones we have worked on.

During the session, I will teach you how to produce the sound or concept we’re working on. I will help you understand and acquire the proper mouth posture required to sound more like an American English speaker. I will correct you each and every single time you make a mistake with that particular sound or concept. Again, we will not move on until you master it.

After that, you will receive your materials (written explanations, audio recordings, etc), and you must practice and work on perfecting the exercises throughout the week. We will be in contact throughout that time so you can ask me questions between one session and another, and I will respond with text, voice, or video messages.

Once you’re ready to move on, we will focus on the next most important sound in our next session, but I will correct you on both sounds or concepts from the first week and second week, and so on.

Since this is an intensive course, my focus will only be on your accent, intonation, and rhythm.
